Happy Mothers Day to all you Mutha's!!
Another great day in the adventures on Art's Bike Trip. I called the Watertown airport early this morning and found a guy who had a Cessna 172 for rent by the hour so I rented one for an hour. It was a little bumpy but bright and sunny. The castle in the pictures was built by the owner of the Waldorf Astoria hotel in NYC for his wife. The boat house was where he kept the boats he used to run out to the castle. When you look at the boat house from the front you can see the high doors that opened for the masts. It is a pretty impressive "get away from the hotel" weekend cottage.
Now don't tell anyone, but we actually flew over the Canadian border at a low altitude so we could get the pictures of the sunken British ships. These four British ships apparently went aground in the shallow waters during the war of 1812 and the Americans went out and finished them off.
The three brick buildings by the waters edge are the original first three buildings of Fort Drum. Apparently they were there long before Christ was a corporal.
It was a great sightseeing day.
Looks like a decent weekend house...but i'd prefer if it had a landing strip.

If I'm not mistaken, that is "Boldt Castle" in Alexandria Bay. It was being built for his wife (young and pretty) and she died before it was completed. He sent a telegram from NYC to the workers and told all of them to leave immediately . . . the castle was never completed.
